The thing about it is As I was thinking about life All the voodoo, divination Kama Sutra, my ex-wife The whoring and the swearing Angry motorcycle riding The dope and all the smoking It was fun and I'm not joking Risk, reward, the balance wrong Crushing crime inside my bong Crime and terrible consequence Experiment with experience Marriage, work, divorce, the kids Went back to the drawing board A lonely stag with Family Guy Star Trek reruns, I got by Then Narcissisa caught my eye Bombed with love, I touched the sky In her trap, the spider nigh Close call for a naive guy Extricated and escaped Her fangs bit into empty space That was close, I felt the breeze Quizzically, she looked at me Eyes of black, head was cocked The deer spider saw only dust Escape, my only option That was dumb, no Holmes or Watson! Surrender has a terrible cost She moved on, but I was stuck Days and nights in thought were lost Surrender has a terrible cost A year of pain, a year of penance All my doors were sealed shut Suddenly, a door creaked open Thought about kicking it shut Jumped back in the crucible Made sure that no poems were lost God bless my Muse, my poet angel Finally understood the cost My new lover here on earth She's a poet - money's worth Feeds me, body, soul, and mind So much love I steal her lines Sometimes loss can be a win Word wrestling with ghosts and friends Door and heart are open wide for poetry to pour inside Copyright ©️ 2024, David Angel, All Rights Reserved
