Local government was aware of the exploding deer population in 2010 and gave lip service every few years to actually doing something about it until 2026 when deer/vehicle collisions were happening in my town every bloody day. Township council finally voted to bring in archers and sharp shooters to thin the herd. The venison is donated to food pantries. Of course all the well meaning idiots who leave out food for deer were up in arms. DNR studies claim relocation and sterilization are ineffective, and for folks who object to arrows and bullets, as sad as an official cull is, the unofficial road kill cull is both crueler and more dangerous. I hit one a couple years ago - it ran out at night - nothing I could do about it. Totaled the Toyota. The area's one albino deer - struck by a truck last week. I blame our mandarin local government hacks for being too feckless to do a damn thing before there were at least ten times as many deer as there should ever have been in these parts.
