I see that a lot of conservatives are calling this latest shooting a reason to declare “war” on “leftists.” That doesn’t exactly sound like turning down the rhetoric. More like turn up the violence.
That’s the broadbrush demonization I’m talking about Carole. Conservatism in general is a mainstream ideology that is every bit as much in good faith as liberalism. I prefer the blend of the two in the center - to each their own, but unless somebody is a crazy hater, it goes too far to falsely accuse center-left or center-right people of being radical - violent. The vast majority are not.
There’s a lot of anger and despair right now. I wouldn’t take everybody literally when they’re venting.
Everybody should tamp down the rhetoric, obviously that starts with thinking straight. The ease with which people who never listened to Charlie Kirk can label him a hater is a sad testament to human gullibility, because he’s a great guy & all you have to do is listen to him long enough to see how respectful he was to everybody. Unfortunately, too many people do not have the mental capacity to think beyond Trump likes him so he is automatically bad
No, I’m all for reasonable gun legislation that isn’t used to incrementally step on gun rights.
Stronger background checks even in private sales or gifts of firearms; no loopholes of any nature; and more stringent training requirements to carry or even possess a gun.
I’m for reinstating involuntary commitment proceedings for people who are adjudged to be dangerous to themselves or others.
I am for summary proceedings to take guns away from people who are determined to be dangerous or mentally ill.
Things like bumpstocks should be as illegal as machine guns
Better legislation will certainly save some lives, but evil never sleeps. and won’t go away so pretending that taking guns away from law abiding citizens is a panacea is just the wishful thinking of the totalitarian mind that does not understand the legitimate basis of the second amendment.
Dialing down the rhetoric will also save lives.
To the extent of the country turns away from leftism toward traditional Judeo-Christian values we will have a better country. These values are neither strictly liberal or conservative, They are a blend.
Respect for free exchange ideas should be restored. I’ve seen otherwise intelligent people duped into believing that stating one’s opinion somehow draws the violence. It’s the demonization of people you disagree with that draws the violence.
Again, there are kernels of wisdom in your argument. However, smothering a rose with horseshit doesn’t make it smell better and if you use too much of it, it won’t help it grow better either.
The very government that leftists would create in their sick image is of the sort that makes freedom loving citizens thank God for the Second Amendment.
The moment you demonize one side or the other is the moment you expose yourself as a true partisan. Your concern becomes less about the right conclusion and making sure it’s the right’s conclusion.
So I guess since the cat’s out of the bag already, we just let him pee wherever he wants. After all, animals have rights!
